Paper 5 - 25 November 2005 Meeting
HAMPSHIRE AND ISLE OF WIGHT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
25 November 2005
FUTURE OF PUBLIC SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS
Report by the Director
That the Association writes in support of the Surrey LGA representations on this subject.
1. The Surrey Local Government Association has made the following representations to the Minister for Communities and Local Government (David Miliband):
"We write on behalf of the Surrey Local Government Association which represents Surrey County Council and all eleven Boroughs and Districts in the County.
We are observing with profound misgivings the continuing reviews which are rearranging boundaries and administrative structures in the public sector across the country. These are happening in a completely uncoordinated way with the gravest of implications for the delivery of ‘joined-up’ services in our communities.
We have prepared a short paper which sets out our concerns in more detail. It is attached with this letter. We also suggest a possible solution in a set of principles which, if applied to every review undertaken, would go some considerable way to solving the problems which we foresee.
We hope you will give urgent consideration to our paper."
2. These representations and the attached paper seem to sum up HIOW Member authorities’ and strategic partnerships’ concerns and it is recommended that we support them.
